Wow! Who Took That Great Picture?
.

Ever since she launched her agency several years ago, Danita has been building a team of extraordinarily talented photographers to serve the needs of picture buyers. There are now about 150 photographers working with us. We’re often asked about them, so here are brief profiles of five photographers who we find particularly interesting:

Christian Ziegler
A German tropical entomologist based at the Smithsonian Research Institute in Baro Colorado, Panama, Christian Ziegler offers a wealth of critters and creatures of the Central American rainforest. He often paddles his canoe across the lake and hikes the rainforest trails to where his motion-sensor and trip-wire cameras are set up to capture the creatures of the forest. His dedication to his work is evident in the exceptional images he offers, complete with scientific captions. According to Smithsonian Magazine, his “background in biology enables Christian to reduce the distance between the photographer and the subject, resulting in images that show nature in a very personal and private way.” Go to the Christian Ziegler lightbox

Michele & Stuart Westmorland

Underwater and lifestyle specialists Michele and Stuart Westmorland are often found leading photo tours to the coastal waters of the Pacific Northwest and Canada to spot migrating whales, or to the tropical waters of Papua New Guinea to capture the thriving species there. Stuart and Michele currently have an exceptional underwater exhibit at the Seattle Aquarium. Further, Michele has a new project to retrace the 1920s footsteps of Caroline Mytinger and Margaret Warner through the Solomon Islands and the rainforests of Papua New Guinea, where they painted native portraits, culture and remote vistas “before modern, western culture altered their ways of life forever.” Go to the Westmorlands’ lightbox

Greg Johnston
Canada native Greg Johnston turned to travel and lifestyle photography full-time a decade ago while working on a documentary project in Cornwall, England. These days, he is most often found on beaches throughout the Caribbean, photographing models on location, or the many Caribbean islands as tourist destinations. His work was applauded in 2000 when the Society of American Travel Writers voted him Travel Photographer of the Year. He is currently working on a book about luxury Caribbean resorts. Keren Su

China-born Keren Su, who claims to be the first person to ride a single-speed bicycle across China and to float an inner-tube raft down the 1,321-kilometer long Tarim River, is widely recognized as an Asian specialist. The Hangzhou native now lives in the Seattle area, but leads tours throughout Asia and the world. Because he can speak directly with local people in many parts of Asia, Su always brings home outstanding lifestyle and travel images, along with model-released portraits. Go to Keren Su's lightbox
