What is Visual Sorting?
Our visual search technology quickly sorts the results of keyword searches according to the visual qualities of images. You give the visual search engine clues by selecting images you like, and it sorts the images to bring your idea of a great image to the top of the search results. You save time by not scrolling through every page of search results, and you get the image that best matches your idea of the perfect shot!

When To Use Visual Sort
- When there are hundreds of results to your keyword search.
- When you have a certain "look" in mind.
- If you need a specific layout, for instance white space at the top for a masthead, or a solid color on the bottom for placing text.
- When a certain color, object, or shape is desired.
- To find sisters and similars.
- To locate an image without the image ID number.
How to use Visual
Sorting
Start with a broad keyword search. Visual sorting is so fast
there is nothing to gain from narrowing your search too soon.
|
Begin the visual sort by browsing the keyword search results and clicking the eyeball icon beneath the first thumbnail you find that is close to what you have in mind.
|
A new visual feedback window named "Find More Like These" will open on the left side of your screen, showing 10 small images. For fastest sorting, highlight all of the small images that are like what you have in mind by clicking on them, then click the orange “Re-Sort Images” button. The search engine will re-sort the images on the right side of the screen to bring the images most visually similar to what you have in mind to the top of the order.
|
|
Clicking the “Re-Sort Images” button also refreshes the 10 sample images on the left side of the screen. The new sample images are chosen to give the most useful feedback to the search engine. Many of them may not look at all like what you have in mind, but give highly useful clues to the engine based on your ideas. Ours visual search engine learns something more from each image you select, and even uses the clues from those you don't choose! Your results get better with each re-sort!
|
If none of the images are acceptable, press the orange “None-Match” button to give the engine 10 negative clues and get 10 even better suggestions.
|
If you want to change the clues you previously provided, just
use your browser's Back button to get back to where you were last satisfied
with your choices.
|
When am I Finished?
When you find a perfect image!
At any time you can scroll down the sorted results on the
right side of the page The top images should be the best matches to your idea and the relevancy should diminish as you scroll down If you see a really great one lower in the results, click on the Thumbs Up! icon and it will be sent closer to the top along with others like it.
Users tell us that if you don't change your mind about what
you want during the sorting process, you will usually get the cream of the crop
within 2-3 re-sorts When the first page
of results stops improving, you are at the point of diminishing returns.
